HERE’S SOME OF THE TOP STORIES WE ARE FOLLOWING AT THIS HOUR. ONE PERSON WAS KILLED AND ANOTHER IS IN THE HOSPITAL THIS MORNING AFTER A CRASH IN WINSTON SALEM THAT SHUT DOWN BOTH LANES OF UNIVERSITY PARKWAY FOR SEVERAL HOURS YESTERDAY. THOSE ARE BACK OPEN AT THIS HOUR. INVESTIGATORS SAY THIS STARTED THOUGH, WITH 65 YEAR OLD MICHAEL MONTGOMERY FOLLOWING TWO CLOSELY BEHIND OTHER CARS AND SPEEDING. HE ENDED UP HITTING TWO CARS BEFORE HITTING A METAL LIGHT POLE. HE DIED AT THE SCENE. POLICE SAY ONLY ONE OTHER DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND THEY HAVE NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. NO ARRESTS AFTER A FIGHT LED TO GUNFIRE IN DOWNTOWN WINSTON-SALEM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. POLICE SAY THIS HAPPENED AROUND 430 NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF FOURTH AND TRADE STREETS. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO DANGER TO THE PUBLIC, AND IT APPEARED TO BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IN-PERSON EARLY VOTING IS NOW UNDERWAY FOR NORTH CAROLINA’S PRIMARY RUNOFF ELECTION. IN THE TRIAD, VOTERS WILL CHOOSE BETWEEN REPUBLICAN NOMINEES FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AND STATE AUDITOR. THE TOP VOTE GETTERS IN THESE RACES FAILED TO SECURE THE REQUIRED 30% OF THE VOTE IN THE MARCH 5TH PRIMARY. EARLY VOTING WILL END ON MAY 11TH AT 3 P.M., AND THEN THE RUNOFF OR SECOND PRIMARY. ELECTION DAY IS ON MAY 14TH. NEW OVERNIGHT IN THE NFL DRAFT, THE CAROLINA PANTHERS TRADED BACK INTO THE FIRST ROUND. THE TEAM TRADED THEIR 33RD PICK AND A SELECTION IN THE FIFTH ROUND IN A DEAL WITH THE BUFFALO BILLS FOR THE 32ND PICK. THIS ALLOWED THEM TO ACQUIRE SOUTH CAROLINA WIDE RECEIVER XAVIER LEGETTE. THE TEAM HAS NINE PICKS LEFT IN THE DRAFT, TWO OF THOSE WILL BE MADE TONIGHT IN ROUNDS TWO AND THREE. THE REST WILL COME IN THE FINAL ROUNDS ON SATURDAY. The left lane on I-40 westbound will close nightly tonight through Sunday night. The closure will begin near Union Cross Road and extend to Highpoint Road.

The closure will take place nightly at different times and are as follows:

  • Thursday: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Saturday: 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Sunday: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

To avoid the work, drivers should use U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway).

Drivers should use caution while traveling through the work zones and plan accordingly for delays.
